Orsi Academy first in Belgium to get robot-driven CIARTIC Move from Siemens Healthineers

Orsi Academy further expands training facilities with the latest generation of mobile imaging technology

Melle, December 11, 2025 — Orsi Academy, the leading training and expertise center for robotic surgery in Melle, is the first in Belgium to introduce the CIARTIC Move, the latest robot-driven mobile C-arm from Siemens Healthineers. This addition enables Orsi Academy to facilitate even more realistic and efficient training in disciplines such as orthopedics, vascular surgery and endovascular medicine. The investment underscores Orsi Academy’s continuous ambition to integrate state-of-the-art technologies and marks a new chapter in its long-standing collaboration with Siemens Healthineers.

Korneel Vandenbroucke, General Manager of Orsi Academy

Since 2010, Orsi Academy has grown into an international hub where clinicians, researchers and companies can test and apply the newest imaging and robotic technologies. Siemens Healthineers is a structural partner. The entire imaging portfolio within Orsi Academy — including the Cios Flow, Cios Alpha, Cios Spin, Artis Icono Floor and multiple ultrasound systems — is supplied by Siemens Healthineers. With the introduction of the CIARTIC Move, this collaboration deepens further.

“We have built a relationship with Siemens Healthineers that goes beyond equipment delivery,” says Korneel Vandenbroucke, General Manager of Orsi Academy. “Their technology not only supports our training activities today but also helps define our needs for the future. The CIARTIC Move fits perfectly into that long-term vision: flexible, innovative and fully focused on workflow and safety.”

55% time savings

The CIARTIC Move is the first robot-driven mobile C-arm in Belgium. The device can autonomously recognize and return to up to twelve positions, significantly accelerating and standardizing 2D and 3D imaging. A clinical study shows that this automation can deliver time savings of up to 55 percent. Another major advantage is that surgeons can operate the C-arm entirely from the sterile field using a remote control. This eliminates the need for external assistance and reduces the risk of communication errors between surgeon and assistant. Thanks to its holonomic wheels and motorized chassis, the CIARTIC Move also moves with exceptional precision, even in confined spaces, improving ergonomics and safety for the entire team.

“The CIARTIC Move is designed to radically simplify workflow and put surgical autonomy at the center,” says Gaëtan Dekeukelaere, Area Sales Manager Mobile C-arms at Siemens Healthineers. “Thanks to robot-driven positioning and the ability to control the device entirely from the sterile field, many time-consuming steps are eliminated. For a training center like Orsi Academy, where workflows must be standardized and reproducible, the CIARTIC Move offers tremendous added value. The combination of autonomous movements, consistent imaging and advanced 3D scans shortens and enhances the learning curve for clinicians.”

Orsi Academy works daily with a wide range of medical disciplines. The flexibility of the CIARTIC Move plays a crucial role in this.

Our center has to remain dynamic and hybrid. We support orthopedics, vascular techniques, cardiac surgery, spinal procedures and multiple robotic platforms. With a single fixed device, we could never serve all disciplines efficiently,” Vandenbroucke explains. “The mobility and automation of the CIARTIC Move once again provide us with the flexibility a modern training center requires.”

Future technologies

With ongoing expansion works, Orsi Academy aims to double its capacity. The interior of the new building is deliberately kept flexible to allow future technologies to be integrated as soon as they become available.

“A year to a year and a half from now, we will again evaluate which technologies we need. Siemens Healthineers will remain a strategic partner in this — not only for imaging, but possibly again for integrated systems that bring imaging and robotics together,” concludes Korneel Vandenbroucke.
