Colt en PCCW Global brengen blockchain PoC naar het volgende niveau met realtime data

Colt Technology Services en PCCW Global hebben met een tweede succesvolle proof of concept (PoC) verdere vooruitgang geboekt bij hun onderzoek naar het potentieel van blockchain-technologie binnen de telecomsector. Het doel is om met behulp van blockchain de kosten voor het intercarrier-verkeer te automatiseren. Er nemen inmiddels meer leden van het ITW Global Leaders’ Forum (GLF) deel aan dit het initiatief dan bij het eerste PoC.

Colt en PCCW maakten in maart bekend dat ze samen met blockchain-startup Clear succesvol een PoC hadden gedaan op basis van blockchain-technologie. Het doel was om de kosten voor het internationale wholesale-verkeer tussen carriers te automatiseren. De doorlooptijd van de kostenverwerking kon daarmee worden teruggebracht van uren tot minuten. Dit eerste PoC maakte gebruik van historische data om de technologie en mogelijke toepassingen daarvan in de telecomsector te testen.

Bij het nieuwe PoC gaan de deelnemende partijen een stap verder, door het blockchain-grootboek te voeden met live datafeeds. Hierdoor is het mogelijk om het inter-carrierverkeer automatisch te verifiëren en verrekenen op basis van real-time data. Andere GLF leden hebben de mogelijkheid gegrepen om deel te nemen aan dit initiatief met als doel om op korte termijn de bilaterale tests tussen Colt en PCCW Global uit te breiden naar multilaterale relaties binnen de hele wholesale telecommarkt. Nieuwe deelnemers aan het initiatief zijn onder meer BT, HGC Global Communications, Telefonica en Telstra.

Hij vervolgt: “De tweede proof of concept deed niet alleen wat ervan werd verwacht – het wholesale-verkeer op accurate wijze verifiëren en verrekenen aan de hand van real-time informatie – maar vereffent ook de weg naar een veilige automatisering van arbeidsintensieve, handmatige taken. Dit biedt carriers als Colt de vrijheid om te investeren in de groei van hun onderneming en die van hun klanten.”
